28’ pontoon / houseboat (pop up custom build) updated: 7-10-22 “the trencher” i have a 28’ custom pop-up pontoon/houseboat for sale. i build this boat 15 years ago so i could take my family to canada, lake of the woods, on summer vacations and on duck hunting trips in the fall. having a camper we could camp on and a boat all in one was the perfect answer for our family. we could launch, find the fish, and drop anchor where the fish are. in the morning, we were on the fish, no more night runs, or having to head to camp during the best fishing times. because it is considered a houseboat, we were allowed to have beer on board, which is not allowed in regular boats. for duck hunting, we towed my duck boat / canoe out with us, and parked close to our hunting spot. this allowed us to be way out, but close to camp. having an oven and running water made cooking and cleaning easy. having a chemical toilet made the girls, well not happy, but acceptable to them. the good: 1. 60 hp mercury bigfoot 4 stroke. it is a great runner, was bought new, and has never been a problem. a. 24 gal fuel tank b. power tilt / trim and steering c. steering in front under cover, so driving in the rain/snow is not miserable. 2. (2) built in bunks. 3. huge storage under bunks. 4. screened windows all the way around. 5. power anchors front and back. 6. built in kitchen. a. stove b. oven c. running water 7. built in propane forced air heater with thermostat. vents to outside. 8. bathroom 9. fishing deck on back. 10. dual batteries + spot for generator. i. generator not included (but available) 11. inverter for 110 power without generator. 12. power lift system for raising and lowering. ( **see below ) 13. heavy duty trailer. a. torsion brakes so can be towed with any truck. b. long reinforcing center beam. 14. sleeps 2 very comfortably. 2 adults + 2 kids not a problem. 3 adults ok. 4 adults a little cramped. 2 adults and all 5 kids a bit much. we would run up on a beach in canada / mississippi river and put older kids in a tent. 15. it has been in indoor storage for 2 years due to the covid debacle. the bad: 1. it has been in inside storage for 2+ years. 2. power winches were in bad shape last trip and were “hastily” replace with manual winches. wiring and switches in place for restoring winches to power versions. included with all parts. 3. kitchen storage area was never really finished, as it changed many times over the years. 4. chem toilet is not included. 5. batteries are old, should be replaced. 6. the heater needs a thermocouple. it has been removed but is included. 7. raising and lowering the top must be done on dry ground. low bridges are a problem. 8. of the 5 tires, 2 are showing signs of ware, and should be replaced. 9. trailer lights are brand new led type. the connection point to vehicle needs work. 10. the whole boat needs a coat of paint. 11. top speed is 13 mph. top speed towing a boat and canoe is 8 mph. pulling a tube for a 9 yr old is fun, teenagers will get bored. 12. backing up requires getting out and putting the pin in the brake controller to stop the brakes from engaging. a pita, but backs up great, and i’m usually out anyway. does take some thought when stopping for gas or food. 13. it has been in indoor storage for 2 years. i can open it up for showing, or pull it out and hook hose for starting. plz let me know what you require to decide on purchase. all in all, it is road and water ready. this is not a boat for someone who isn’t handy, likes to tinker, and has basic tools. we have had a lot of fun vacations on “the trencher” and hope some other family can as well. my kids are all grown up now, my wife and i are getting older and trying to downsize, as well as access to the places we love to go are not available to us due to the covid debacle. i will include all parts, pieces, and will be available for information after the sale, as there is no real manual for it. i can deliver it local, or work out a deal for delivery. please, no scams. i’m asking a more than fair price. no i won’t send you money, gift cards, or ship it to timbucktoo. i will be very honest and expect the buyer to be as well. i will accept a bank check, and will keep boat till it clears. a bank transfer would be best, safe, for both of us. i will assist your bank in securing a loan, including an inspection audit, if required. i will assist in title transfer and registration. updated: 3-12-22 i pulled it out, drained the old gas, and started it for 2 interested parties. both said they had to think about it and have never responded. it is out and ready to go. if you are a long ways away, a video call can be arranged. answers to questions: yes, the frame is all aluminum. deck is in good shape, although i did plan to pull up carpet and replace with tile. carpet stays wet too long and harder to clean. 3 guys in waders tend to make a mess. yes, the trailer comes with it and is included in the price. it is custom designed to fit the boat. i have recovered it alone, and can be done, but much easier with 2 people. yes, it does have a center pontoon, which i guess would make it a tri-toon. the center toon is pushed forward to allow a larger front deck. yes, i can start it. i use motor muffs when not in the water. i will include them. posted: july 10, 2022, 5:51 pm
